Mary & George unveils the story of Mary, born into obscurity in 17th-century society, who ingeniously employs her strikingly handsome second son, George (masterfully portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine), to secure the family’s fortunes in a daring manner. Adapted from Benjamin Woolley’s nonfiction work, The King’s Assassin, and penned by DC Moore (known for Temple and Killing Eve), this tale is an exhilarating ride. It combines the narrative depth of The Favourite, the stylish flair of The Great, a hint of The Tudors’ opulence, and enough intrigue to satisfy Bridgerton enthusiasts.

Our introduction to George is rather unconventional; he’s found hanging in the forest. Mary, now the Countess of Buckingham, nonchalantly rescues him, revealing their dynamic relationship. George’s desire clashes with Mary’s ambition for him to refine his courtly manners in France. With their family’s future at stake—father deceased, eldest son problematic—it falls upon George to ensure their prosperity.

Mary devises a bold plan: George must seduce King James I of England/James VI of Scotland (depicted by Tony Curran). But first, funds are needed. Mary wastes no time, swiftly marrying the affluent Sir Thomas Compton (played by Sean Gilder) to gain financial support for George’s endeavors. As Mary navigates court politics, George embarks on his own journey of growth and exploration.

This captivating saga unfolds with Mary’s strategic maneuvering and George’s transformative experiences, all against the backdrop of royal intrigue. Mary & George is a tale of ambition, love, and the lengths one will go to secure their legacy—a story bound to captivate audiences with its audacious spirit and compelling characters.
