Although Benjamin Franklin isn’t prominently featured in the renowned musical “Hamilton,” he takes the spotlight in an upcoming Apple TV+ drama starring Michael Douglas. Here’s all you need to know about this captivating portrayal of the Founding Father:

The series, titled “Franklin,” adapted from Stacy Schiff’s book “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, And The Birth Of America,” zooms in on a pivotal period in Franklin’s life. Tasked with a critical mission amidst the American Revolution, Franklin, portrayed by Michael Douglas, sets out on a journey to France. His objective: to secure vital support from the French monarchy, crucial for the survival of the fledgling American republic amid intense conflict with Britain.

At the age of 70, Franklin, though lacking diplomatic experience, relies on his sharp intellect to navigate a treacherous political landscape. He outwits British spies, deals with French informers, and manages complex relationships to forge the Franco-American alliance of 1778, a significant turning point in history.

Joining Douglas in the cast are Noah Jupe as Temple, Franklin’s grandson, along with Thibault de Montalembert, Ludivine Sagnier, Eddie Marsan, and Theodore Pellerin as Marquis de Lafayette.

“Franklin” is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on April 12 with the release of the first three episodes. Subsequent episodes will follow on a weekly basis, leading up to the season finale on May 17.
