Imaginary 2024 movie review

Jessica (played by DeWanda Wise) has recently moved back to her childhood home with her family, including her youngest stepdaughter, Alice (portrayed by Pyper Braun). As they settle into their new surroundings, Alice stumbles upon an old stuffed teddy bear tucked away in the attic. Innocently enough, she begins to play with it, but soon, her games take on a disturbingly sinister tone.

Jessica becomes increasingly concerned as she notices Alice’s behavior becoming more erratic and unsettling. She senses a connection between Alice’s odd conduct and an imaginary friend she had mentioned, one that she had seemingly left behind in her childhood.

As Jessica delves deeper into Alice’s world, she uncovers dark secrets buried within the walls of their family home. Haunted by her own memories of the past and grappling with the mysteries surrounding Alice’s imaginary friend, Jessica must confront the terrifying truth before it consumes them all.

The film explores themes of childhood trauma, the power of imagination, and the lingering effects of unresolved issues from the past. DeWanda Wise delivers a compelling performance as Jessica, capturing her character’s journey of discovery and desperation to protect her family. Pyper Braun shines as Alice, portraying her descent into a disturbing fantasy world with chilling authenticity.
