In just a few more weeks, horror enthusiasts will be treated to the long-awaited return of one of the genre’s most iconic franchises with “The Exorcist: Believer.” Universal has unveiled an exciting new featurette video titled “Around the World” today.

Directed by David Gordon Green, this brand-new sequel to “The Exorcist” is a collaborative effort between Universal, Blumhouse, and Morgan Creek, setting the stage for an upcoming trilogy. The first installment of this trilogy is now set to hit theaters on October 6, 2023, with Leslie Odom Jr. in a leading role.

Here’s a glimpse of the film’s intriguing plot:

“Since the tragic loss of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (played by Leslie Odom, Jr.) has raised their daughter Angela (portrayed by Lidya Jewett) on his own. However, when Angela and her friend Katherine (played by Olivia Marcum) vanish in the woods, only to return three days later with no recollection of their ordeal, it sets off a chain of events that compels Victor to confront the darkest depths of evil. In his fear and desperation, he seeks out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil (played by Ellen Burstyn).”

The screenplay for “Believer” was penned by Peter Sattler (known for “Broken Diamonds”) and David Gordon Green himself. The story was crafted by Green, Scott Teems (from “Halloween Kills”), and Danny McBride (also from “Halloween”).

It’s been quite a while since “The Exorcist” franchise graced the big screen, with the last installment being the 2005 release of “Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist.” This followed the 1977 film “The Exorcist II: The Heretic” and 1990’s “The Exorcist III.” More recently, “The Exorcist” found new life as a critically acclaimed television series on Fox, cleverly set in the same universe as the original classic.
