The masterminds behind Cobra Kai are making a triumphant return with their latest Netflix creation, Obliterated. This upcoming series, slated to premiere at the end of the month, promises an R-rated, “high-octane action-comedy” experience on the streaming platform. Obliterated unfolds the story of a special forces team confronting an unexpected threat, promising viewers an uphill battle filled with thrilling twists. Before the much-anticipated debut, here’s a comprehensive look at what we know about the series, from release date and cast to the creative team and more.

Obliterated is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix on Thursday, November 30, following the streaming giant’s usual release pattern at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT. Viewers can choose from three streaming plans: the Standard tier with ads, priced at $6.99 USD per month for two devices; the Standard ad-free tier, available at $15.49 monthly for two devices; and the Premium plan at $19.99 per month, accommodating six devices and offering top-notch video quality.

The official trailer for Obliterated, unveiled on September 27, provides a glimpse into the series’s high-energy action and sets the tone for what to expect. The trailer introduces the special forces team navigating a tense bomb-defusing moment, celebrating what appears to be a successful victory at a party, and then receiving a chilling phone call indicating the existence of a real bomb. As the team dives back into action, the trailer showcases their dynamic and hints at the more adult tone of Obliterated, a departure from the family-friendly approach seen in the creators’ previous work on Cobra Kai.

During Netflix’s Geeked Week event, a new clip from Obliterated was unveiled, offering a sneak peek into a sequence following the team’s awareness of the genuine bomb threat. The clip showcases the team stopping a party bus and swiftly shifting their focus to pursue a mysterious vehicle, suggesting a connection to the impending explosion.

The narrative of Obliterated centers around an elite special forces team that successfully neutralizes a deadly bomb threat in Las Vegas. However, their celebration, fueled by drugs, sex, and alcohol, takes a sharp turn when they discover that the bomb they deactivated was a decoy. The real threat still looms, and the team embarks on a mission to locate and disarm the genuine bomb, navigating personal challenges and intoxication along the way.

In an interview with Netflix, series creator Jon Hurwitz explained that Obliterated started as a movie but evolved into a television series to give the characters more depth and nuanced storylines:

Obliterated boasts a diverse ensemble cast featuring talent across the core team, recurring roles, and guest stars. The lead cast includes Nick Zano as Chad McKnight, the SEAL team leader, known for his roles in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Minority Report, and One Big Happy. Shelley Hennig portrays Ava, a CIA agent and co-leader of the special forces team, recognized for her work in Teen Wolf and Dollface. Paola Lázaro plays Angela, the team’s sniper, with prior credits in The Walking Dead and Lethal Weapon. Terrence Terrell takes on the role of Trunk, Chad’s best friend, featured in The Best Man: The Final Chapters and B Positive. Kimi Rutledge plays Maya, an NSA tech and skilled hacker, with notable roles in short films and Half Sisters. Alyson Gorske portrays Lana, with recent appearances in The Puppetman and Shrinking. C. Thomas Howell embodies Hagerty, the team’s bomb tech, well-known for his role in The Outsiders and recent work in Netflix’s Old Dads and recurring roles in Criminal Minds and SEAL Team. Eugene Kim rounds out the main cast as Paul, the team’s helicopter pilot, with guest appearances in Magnum P.I., Animal Kingdom, and The Lincoln Lawyer.

Recurring cast members include Carl Lumbly as CIA director James Langdon, Costa Ronin as Ivan, a Russian arms dealer, David Costabile, Lindsey Kraft, Tobias Jelinek, Minnie Mills, and Jason Mantzoukas. The star-studded guest star lineup includes Lori Petty, Virginia Madsen, Clive Standen, Ivan G’Vera, Keston John, and Michael Landes.

The creative force behind Obliterated consists of series creators and showrunners Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald. Dina Hillier serves as an executive producer, while directors America Young, Sherwin Shilati, and Joel Novoa bring their vision to the series. Abraham Martinez serves as director of photography, and the score is composed by Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson, known for their work on Cobra Kai. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Obliterated marks another venture for the trio of creators, known for their success with Cobra Kai, the Karate Kid continuation series, which is set to conclude with its sixth season in 2024. In addition to their collaboration on Cobra Kai, the trio worked together on the features Blockers and Plan B. Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz have an extensive collaborative history, including the Harold & Kumar movies and American Reunion.

As the much-anticipated debut of Obliterated approaches, fans can look forward to a gripping blend of action, comedy, and suspense, fueled by a stellar cast and the creative prowess of the Cobra Kai creators.
