In this new chapter co-directed by Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Ma Stine, Po faces a pivotal moment in his journey. Having mastered his role as the Dragon Warrior, he must now pass on his wisdom and embrace a new role as the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. This transition reflects the universal theme of letting go of past glory to make room for new beginnings. Yet, for Po, inner peace is found in adventure, setting the stage for a conflict of identity.
Jack Black effortlessly embodies Po once more, infusing the character with his trademark humor and energy. His chemistry with Awkwafina’s Zhen adds a fresh dynamic, challenging Po to embrace change and new partnerships. Viola Davis’s imposing presence as the villain elevates the stakes, though the potential of her shapeshifting abilities feels underexplored.
The introduction of Juniper City expands the film’s world with inventive elements and quirky characters. However, the absence of the Furious Five leaves a noticeable gap, their brief appearances feeling more obligatory than integral to the plot.
While the action sequences are entertaining, Hans Zimmer’s score falls short of his usual brilliance. Nonetheless, the film retains its charm, with Jack Black’s enduring enthusiasm for the role keeping the franchise alive.
