How far would you go for love? This is the question posed to the followers of Twin Flames Universe as they embark on a quest to unite with their supposed soulmates. However, beneath the surface of this seemingly positive online group lies a darker underbelly of cult-like control, characterized by manipulation, exploitation, and abuse.
Lately, Jeff and Shaleia have faced increasing scrutiny due to their controversial coaching methods employed with their followers. According to the parents of group members and former Twin Flame Universe participants, Jeff and Shaleia identified twin flames for specific members and pushed them to cross ethical boundaries, leading to one woman obtaining a restraining order against her and facing arrest.
Disturbingly, other concerning behavior includes persuading members to sever ties with their families, leaving devastated parents to share their stories in the documentary series. Perhaps the most shocking revelation is that Jeff and Shaleia coerced certain members into changing their genders and sexual orientations, arguing that every partnership must have a “divine masculine” and a “divine feminine.”
According to the documentary series “Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames” on Amazon Prime Video, these actions may have been prompted by the growing frustration of members who had invested years and money in the quest for their twin flame. It is suggested that Jeff decided to pair up members, but due to the disproportionately female following, he and Shaleia convinced heterosexual women to enter same-sex relationships and encouraged some women to undergo gender transitions.

According to the official synopsis: “From the Emmy-nominated filmmaking team behind ‘Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult’ comes ‘Escaping Twin Flames,’ a three-part documentary series that unveils the workings of Twin Flames Universe, a controversial online community accused by former members of preying on individuals seeking love.”
In an interview with Netflix, the filmmakers explained, “We received numerous messages from people who left high-control groups after watching our series about the NXIVM cult, and the stories of survivors and families affected by Twin Flames Universe emerged as the most pressing ones to expose.
“‘Escaping Twin Flames’ is the result of a three-year investigation into the sophisticated recruitment and indoctrination techniques employed by the leaders of this online group. We are grateful to those who bravely shared their firsthand accounts and evidence. We created this series for them and for everyone who has been manipulated or coerced without their knowledge.”
The documentary series features interviews with former members who recount their experiences of being encouraged to stalk the objects of their affection. Netflix adds, “The series also documents the efforts of family members to rescue their loved ones from Twin Flames.”
